Discover Top 5 Fishing Spots in South Goa

1.Cabo de Rama

Cabo de Rama is an excellent spot for fishing in South Goa. It is located about 16 kilometers north of Agonda Beach in Canacona.

The water here is a turquoise blue that shatters like jewels every time a wave hits. The fish found here are mostly snappers, with the occasional Giant Trevally thrown in for good measure.

Take National Highway 17 south from Panjim, past Margao, to reach Cabo Da Rama. A road sign pointing off the highway and into a meandering picturesque route that will finally lead you to Cabo can be found a few kilometers after the town.

2. Zuari River

The Zuari River is the largest river in Goa, its salinity content is quite different from that of the Mandovi which runs through the capital Panjim.  Fishing is good along the river, particularly the mouth. The bridge gives you good overhead access to the water. The locals fish from the top of the bridge with heavy 100mm lines, using live mullet as bait.

Some of the most caught fishes near the Zuari River are threadfin, grouper, snapper and barramundi. 

To get here you will need to take the main highway 17 from Panjim towards the town of Vasco and stop at the Zuari Bridge.

3.Palolem Beach

At Palolem Beach’s north end, there is a backwater where you can fish. Palolem village and Palolem beach have long been known for their fishing. You might embark on a real fishing expedition into the deep oceans of the Arabian Sea on the horizon of Palolem beach if you speak with and arrange with the local fishermen of Palolem. You can also check on boat rental services for fishing trips.

Palolem Beach is situated at a distance of about 10 minutes from its nearest railway station at Canacona. Taxis and auto-rickshaws are readily available for Palolem from Canacona Railway Station.

4.Bat Island 

Bat Island, which is dotted with little sections of greenery and a rocky coastline, is ideal for fishing due to its diverse flora and fauna. Sail to Bat Island, also known as Pequeno Island, for a fantastic fishing expedition. You can go underwater fishing on the bat island. You can also hire a fishing guide to help you as a newbie with the process. Snappers, groupers, barracudas, and jacks can all be caught. 

To get here, take a boat from Candolim’s Sinquerim Jetty or Grand Island’s Sinquerim Jetty.

5.Polem

Polem is an ideal fishing destination with its secluded shimmering blue waters and dense jungles. In fact, it is one of Goa’s last intact and unspoiled beaches, and it is now known as The Last Asylum. The water is nearly opaque and has a nice blue-green fluorescent tint to it. Polem Beach is well-known for its small-to-medium-sized guitar sharks, Trevally, and red snapper.

Polem is located in the district of Canacona, about 60 kilometers from Margao and 30 kilometers before the Karnataka border. To get to Polem by car, take the NH17 highway past the famous beach of Palolem (not to be confused with the same name) and then pass Cotigao WLS for about 10 kilometers, after which there is a small right turn with the words Polem Beach written on it.
