Sea Fishing Tackle Tips For Beginner Offshore Anglers

They say there are always new places to go fishing. For any fisherman, there’s always a new place, always a new horizon.

People choose to go fishing at various places from ponds, rivers, lakes and for the adventurous there is sea fishing. Fishing is an art that requires you to learn some basic skill. Although all may not be professionals and might be doing it just as a hobby, nevertheless you will need to make a note of a few basic tips.

The first thing for sea fishing is to make use of a spinning reel that will help you to cast further. A conventional reel may be a daunting task for you to cast.  Go for a reel that is rated for 10 to 25 test line.

When it comes to fishing lines braided line has a much thinner diameter than monofilament line and is the preferred choice of material when it comes to fishing in saline waters. Make sure to periodically change your line while in the waters due to the possibility of weakening of the line from saline water.

Make sure the hook is of the right size. If it is too big it will look unnatural and fish may not get attracted to it. If it is too small the fish may eat the bait off the hook without getting caught. Circle hooks are a very popular choice these days as it is very easy to remove the fish off from hook once caught.

Coming to baits, choose bait that is the closest to the fishes natural food. These include clams, prawns, sea worms or small sized bait fish. Another option for you can be artificial baits also called as lures. Plugs, poppers and spoons and soft baits such as plastic swimbaits, grubs and slugs are the best among lures.

  • Keep a watch on the tide

When it comes to fishing, watching the tide is of utmost importance. As a rule, it is best to arrive at your fishing destination one hour before high tide and continue fishing half an hour after high tide draws back.

After you have caught your fish, be careful not to injure yourself when removing it off. Use a stainless steel wire leader when targeting fish with sharp teeth such as kingfish, barracuda, mackerel, and sharks.

Finally, a tip that all beginners need to keep in mind is that seawater is saline, unlike fresh water. This results in corrosion and can weaken anything metallic that it comes in contact with, like the reel and attached hardware as well as the line guides on your fishing rod. Make sure to wash down your rod and reel with fresh water from your garden hose.

Fishing can be fun, now that you are equipped with the basic tips for fishing, go out there and have some fun. Don’t forget to carry a snack or two to make your time out there even more satisfying
